A lawn swing can exude the beauty of the surroundings.

The compost is ready when it is brownish black in color and looks like soil.

Composting Guidelines

Location: Place the backyard composter in an area that is accessible and where it will get full sun or partial sun. No cooked food: Try not to place in food items such as pasta, rice, fried food, and other similar items as they will emit a foul odor.Add food scraps: only raw fruit, veggies, coffee grounds, tea bags, egg shells. Dry materials: Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, bark, newspapers, and other similar materials make excellent composting ingredients.Winter care: You may add in materials even if the during the cold months, and turn them for aeration once the warm weather has set in.Pile is too dry: Add water and mix well. Pile is too wet: Add dry material, mix well to break up the clumps.Natural: The more natural the material that you place in, the better the results will be.

Healthy Cactus Plant are vibrant green in color and grow vigorously. When the cactus begin to turn yellow and the leaves drop off, it will wither and die in the near future.

Once this point of neglect has been reached, it is nearly impossible to revive your desert cacti.

Watering

It may sound a bit incredulous, but desert plants do have watering requirements if you want them to remain healthy. The watering requirements are minimal but should be done correctly.

When it rains, desert cacti store as much water as they can to survive until the next rainfall.

The desert garden that you are planting has a very different environment from that of a desert. This difference is made up for by following a deep watering routine.

For outdoor cactus plants, water every two weeks except during winter when it can only be watered once a month.

This will give your outdoor cactus optimum growth and bloom. House cacti are watered once a month.

If your cactus roots will be subjected to continuous damp soil conditions, it will rot and die.Desert plants live in sandy soil though you can grow them with other soil types. What is vital to plants is drainage. Drainage properties must be excellent. You can buy cactus soil mixes or you can amend the soil with sand or grit.

Fertilizing Cactus Plants

These desert plants have been used to surviving in poor soil. Your desert garden will still grow even if you do not fertilize.

Your cactus will benefit from being fertilized regularly though this is not a requirement.

If you want a grand and amazing desert garden, then you have to fertilize accordingly. You can use special formulated or 15-15-30 fertilizer twice a month except during winter.

The better alternative for cactus care is the use of organic fertilizer.

Temperature and Sunlight

Even if these plants are used to the heat, they can live through the extreme cold of the winter. If they cannot withstand the temperature, the cactus goes dormant.

It is unlikely that your house desert cacti will flower unless the complete sunlight requirements are met.

Jan 1, Plant cutting is alive but not growing.

Question: I took a cutting from a Lipstick plant one year ago, kept it in water until roots appeared, then planted it in seeding soil in the house, near a window, under other plants. It has never grown, but remains alive, looks good. I keep the soil moist and occasionally use diluted plant food to water it. How can I help it to grow?

Answer: Why your plant cutting is not growing. It seems very odd after a year the cutting is alive yet not growing. Something you might try is placing it under a grow light for up to 16 hours. By doing so you may trigger the plant to go into growth stage which occurs during long summer days. If you used good seeding soil to begin with, you should back off the fertilizer since the plant is not growing.

Considered as a South Grass, a typical Bermuda grass is drought-resistant, and grows on most soil types. With the right amount of fertilizer and good mowing, it can make a perfect lawn.

Although, as a common Bermuda, it can produce unsightly seed heads, it is among the favorites in home lawns for ease and economic reasons.

High quality sward is attainable even in this type of common grass particularly if it is cultivated from seed or sprigs. Native to Southeast Africa, Cynodon dactylon, its scientific name, is widely planted in the Southeastern United States.

It is at its best productivity from June to August, the time when most cool-season turfs are not.

The herbage production is scattered more evenly throughout late spring and summer than that of majority of the warm-season turfs.

Also known as a perennial grass, the grass of Bermuda thrives remarkably in tropical, sub-tropical and transition zones.

Lawns, golf courses, sports fields, arenas, parks, coastal areas, pastures and reclamation areas are not without this grass. Brought to America by Spaniards in 1500s, it has since become major grass specie.

It favors full sun, and fair tolerance on salt. When temperature drops below 60 degrees, the grass grows dormant.

It becomes vibrant green when the temperature rises again. During the rainfall season in the Tropical south, the grasses can grow from low to high maintenance schedules relative to the usage.

Establishing a lawn of this grass from Bermuda seed can be accomplished in 90 days. It is among the few warm season coverage that grows a little farther north in colder climates.

However, it will turn brown at the first drop in temperature.After its establishment, it may hard to get rid of the grass as it is an aggressive type, and germinates faster from seed.

After that, it spreads and covers more soil. If left alone, it can overpower other flower beds.

It has a strong root system that does not only make it drought-tolerant; it also responds very well to nitrogen fertilization.

Nonetheless, the newer hybrid is more superior. Hybrid Bermuda grasses are ideal for hay production because they are more responsive to nitrogen, have high yield potential and fast drying.
