A lawn swing positioned on a shady area makes a perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenery of the yard. People take their position on the swing to meditate. Some read a book or the morning news. And others entertain friends and family on an afternoon.

In the 1800s, they were a staple in every American home. Farms were graced with swings which became a witness of how simple or complex life can be.

Years came and went, and the swings were moved to the backyard from the front. They seemed to have lost their charm from people, until recently, when they dominate the yards again.

There are many types of lawn swings. lawn swing picture There are freestanding, having their own frame, and thus can be positioned anywhere in the yard. Some are supported by branch trees, overhead beams, and any other types of frames, from which they are attached. Houses with larger yards may have a gazebo, inside of which is a swing.

Many swings are characterized by long bench or large chair suspended and held with metal chains or strong and thick rope, from the swing to the overhead support such as a frame or branch of a tree.

Also a popular type of swing is one with a canopy and inside the structure are two swings facing each other. This type of swing is called double-lawn swing.

A single swing may also have an awning to protect those who take refuge from the scorching heat of the sun or from getting wet from the rain.

Many materials are used to construct swings. lawn swing photo There are hardwoods, plastic, canvass, and metal. Most swings can hold two persons the maximum, although there are larger and smaller benches available as well.

The choices for color are limitless. From black, to white, to brown and red or blue, swings can be painted without restrictions on color choices.

In some shops, they offer customization of swings. Customers choose their own color, design, style, size, and material. Most prefer hardwood with canopy or metal. These materials are known to last for a lifetime or two.

A lawn swing can exude the beauty of the surroundings.

It allows people to appreciate nature and feel closer to it. However, they are not meant for recreation or swinging contests as some have perceived.

Designed as a bench or chair suspended on the air with rope or metal holding it, a lawn swing is used to sway back and forth in a slow pace.
