Put Your Christmas Tree to Work in Your Garden

So, it's the day after Christmas, and tomorrow is garbage/recycling day on my street. The Christmas trees that once held ornaments and tinsel are now on many of my neighbors' curbs. But you won't see my tree out there! We use every bit of our tree in our garden, rather than tossing it out.

We set the tree, right in its stand, out in the garden to provide winter shelter for birds. Come spring, we use some of the longer branches as pea brush, and start snipping the rest of the branches to mulch our garden paths. Even the trunk gets put to use -- to support climbing vines, trellises, or as simple garden bed edging.

While recycling is wonderful, it's even better to find ways to reuse your Christmas tree in your own garden. I hope some of these tips help you!
